What is the controversy over ETJ being flushed from the Broad River in Lake Lure, NC?

Question by Kathy G: What is the controversy over ETJ being flushed from the Broad River in Lake Lure, NC?
I’ve seen signs on the Broad River saying Bills Creek won’t fish in the river because of ETJ. How does that connect up? They speak of “flushing” it out of the Broad River.
Thanks

Interesting. ETJ is the Extra Teritorrial Jurisdiction that NC allows incorporated areas to have. Basically the Town of Lake Lure is allowed to administer zoning in an area of up to 1 mile outside corporate limits.

I don’t know if the town has different regualtions regarding fishing than the county, or if it is just a protest because they don’t want to be part of the ETJ. In Greenville we recently had a huge public disapprove of the city’s proposal for the expansion of its ETJ, and it was eventually shot down by the county.

I dont know how that would connect unless its with would have to do with the land developers tearing up the land and possibly runoff/silt and sediment messing up the fish spawning in Bills Creek.

If you find out let me know U can e mail me on here , I used to live right on the broad river below the lake and still have some family there , Thanks
